(東方♫) Touhou music: Nocti - Gensokyo 199X Vol. 4
When Nocti sent out an email on that Gensokyo 199X Vol. 4 was going to release the next day (today, as of the time of posting), I knew this dreadful week I've been having would be saved.
I discovered Nocti around the time of Volume 3's release last year, and I found a single-artist circle of incredible talent, capable of channeling the sounds and vibes of the best music the 90s had to offer through some surprising but honestly excellent choices of Touhou tracks.
Volume 4 is all about Mugetsu and Gengetsu, Nocti's favorites if the album descriptions are any indication. It's a self-indulgent album, in all the right ways and for all the right reasons.
This album is free and available on Nocti's Bandcamp. But please. Consider giving them a couple of bucks. Throw your money at Nocti. Encourage Nocti to keep making music.
It's without hyperbole that I believe they are one of the very best the Touhou music scene has to offer - not just among Western artists, but period.
