(♫) Gat Décor - Passion (Naked Mix)
Ah, the Naked Mix of Passion! What a dreamy track. It's about as 1992 as a first-generation Honda NSX or school debates about Genesis vs. SNES.
I would be in favor of calling this one the missing link between classic house of the early 90s and classic trance of the late 90s. There was enough in common between the two genres that even A State Of Trance featured it as a "Radio Classic" in Episode 8 alongside then-new tracks like Mystery (Above & Beyond Mix) or The Legacy (Club Mix) by Push.
By itself, it's a required listen if you're at all into house music, especially UK house. Gat Décor did more than inspire the scene that followed—some go as far as saying it's ground zero of progressive house. It's THE piano house track, with THAT distinctive piano sound you've heard at least once, maybe a million times if you're a junkie like me.
It's such a good and clean composition that even when recomposed with radically different instruments, it still sticks. I am thinking of Iceferno's 16-bit Genesis (YM2612) rendition in particular when I say this; go listen to this one when you're done with the original.
